Here is the truth about honeymoons: there is no do-over. Every other vacation can absorb a mediocre hotel or a wasted day. This one can't — and you'll be planning it during the single busiest season of your life, somewhere between the seating chart and the cake tasting.

A word on timing: start nine to twelve months before the wedding. The most-loved honeymoon suites and overwater bungalows are booked far ahead, and starting early means choosing rather than settling.
